Welcome to my website! First off I want to introduce myself to you guys! My name is Joshua Bryan Medlin (or JB for short) and I am a filmmaker and the owner of Joshua Bryan Cinema and another soon-to-launch film production company. I am based out of good ol' Richmond, VA (RVA for short) and I am obsessed with creating films. I'm a HUGE lover of all sorts of movies, anywhere tropical and warm, and I may be a bit of a hopeless romantic as well. (I'm a bit sappy) I live in an apartment with my beautiful fiancé Erika, and our little furry friend Lilo! (yes, like from Lilo and Stitch) We love going on adventures togethers, and getting to make memories that will last a life time. Ever since I was a kid the only thing I've ever wanted to do is get to tell stories through film, and now i'm getting to live my dream by telling the love stories of couples, and creating my very own short films on the side! If you want to learn a little more about my story and how I fell in love with filmmaking, keep reading below! Thank you so much for taking the time to explore my website.

My Story - A love for cinema.

My love affair for telling stories started off early on. When I was only 4-5 years old I was absolutely obsessed with watching movies, and then acting them out in real life in different variations! I can remember tearing apart the house with my brothers, creating couch pillow forts to new worlds never seen before. The possibilities seemed endless. Every movie and TV show I watched fueled my imagination and inspired me to create little adventures with my brothers at my childhood home. Whether it was pretending the woods in our back yard were an enchanted forest, or imagining to be double agents with our water guns on secret missions, I couldn't get enough.

One day I stumbled upon my parents camcorder, and this was the day that changed my life. It was an old casset-deck taking Sony Handy-Cam, and this magical shiny machine allowed me to capture my ideas and adventures that I experienced with my brothers and them play them back later on the big screen (old crt tv)! Now not only could I create stories and share them with my brothers, but I could also share them with the rest of my family and friends by making little movies just like at the cinema!

Years went by, and I kept making films over and over again, it was so addicting. Go out with my brothers, shoot all day a story that we came up with on the spot, and then go inside and edit the clips together so we could all watch our masterpiece. After every viewing I would notice things in the film that I didn't like, and that I came up with ideas on how to film things differently next time in order to create an even better film. Very quickly this little hobby of mine started to become much more, as I was obsessed with creating a better film every time we created one.

I then began to study films throughout middle school and high school, trying to figure out how to bring that same magic I saw in the cinema to the films that I created. I bought books, watched online filmmaking shows, and practiced, a lot. I began to see my films shift from being silly little home movies, to more serious and meaningful films. The whole process was so exhilarating to me.

Something about making films made me feel at home. It gave me a voice, when I felt like I no one was listening. It allowed me to have an output for my creative urges. When I first started toying around with the camera, most of the films were silly little adventures me and my siblings created. However, years went by and the more home made films that I created with my brothers, I realized something. Film was so much more to me than a fun thing to do with my free time. It was my passion. The only thing in my life I couldn't bare living without. I found out what I was meant to do. I believe full heartedly that I was put on this earth to tell stories. Whether that be in short films that I submit to festivals, or the love story of a couple on a wedding day!

That brings us here, where I'm at now. About two years ago I opened a small film production company named Medlin Film to offer couples that same magic that I strive for in my usual work. Over the past couple of years i've gotten the extreme privilege to work with couples, small businesses, and artists to help tell their story. I noticed somewhere along the line that the "dark" and more "serious" short films that I create under my company Medlin Film, didn't blend very well with the more romantic and loving feel that I gave in my wedding films. Thus, the birth of Joshua Bryan Cinema. This is a dedicated brand for my lovely wedding couples and fellow small business owners, that I know will help me serve them even better!
